These books will be incorporated to enrich guided reading activities, build background knowledge, and instill a love for reading which will morivate my students as independent, lifelong learners in the 21st century! I strongly believe it is necessary to integrate the following 21st century skills into our classrooms: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. My goals for this class are to examine and evaluate models of literacy instruction, select materials that promote literacy learning for a wide range of student needs, and to examine assessment tools that could be used formatively and summatively to help guide my instruction. I feel that by doing this, I will ensure that my students are better prepared to be college and career ready. In addition, I want to learn how to adapt “best practice” instruction to meet the various needs of my students, while incorporating the ISTE Standards to motivate and inspire student learning and creativity. As an ESL teacher, I believe that celebrating diversity and creating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning is directly related to the overall success of the student.
