Students cannot sit all day! They NEED to move. Please help fund furniture to allow students different options to move, stand, or sit while they are learning.
My fifth grade students sit on chairs from last century, and most of the chairs look like they were here when the school opened over 50 years ago. It’s time to update the furniture to provide flexible seating and standing options so students don’t have to sit still all day.
My students have tremendous potential and asking them to sit for hours all day is not realistic, nor does it allow them to do their best work. Wouldn’t you want to be comfortable so you can do your best? Research is clear about this, and my project will provide students with a variety of options for flexible seating and standing. This project will benefit all fifth graders at my school because they all spend part of their day in my classroom.
My goal is to begin replacing the uncomfortable chairs in the classroom with a variety of flexible seating options that all provide ways for students to move as they sit or stand. We currently have one wobble stool and one balance ball that students all enjoy sitting on. My vision is to have enough flexible seating and standing options for all students so they will not have to sit in the uncomfortable student chairs ever again. The addition of wobble stools will help me be able to provide more students with the ability to move while sitting. My fifth graders all have the opportunity to stand and work during the day, but having balance boards to stand on will allow them to move while standing, which will improve their focus and ability to complete work.
