The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math and spelling. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. First graders can sometimes be forgetful when it comes to putting on the caps for markers and often, the markers dry out. Using the whiteboards, students try multiple problem-solving techniques without being afraid of making mistakes.
We do several hands-on, creative projects each week. Students love to be able to visually express their ideas. Using a variety of materials helps students improve fine motor skills and try different art techniques.
