The scissors allow for each student to explore mathematical ideas and patterns by cutting, recreating, or proving mathematical concepts. For example, when we are studying fractions students have to explore and prove that certain shaded images represent a half or a fourth. To prove it they will need to cut the images and rearrange them to show a half or a fourth, putting math into action.
Throughout my classroom I provide a variety of seating for students to choose what helps them learn best. Some students focus better with a yoga ball and others prefer a standing table. I also provide seating on the floor and the floor seats provide comfort for those students who want to sit at the floor tables.
