Several of my students have issues with hearing. In one class, I have two students that have difficulty discriminating the different sounds in the classroom. Everything is just loud. They have difficulty focussing on what the teacher is saying, following directions and maintaining attention to tasks. Another student I work with has just been diagnosed with significant hearing loss in one ear. She can hear, but at a highly reduced level. She has difficulty knowing from where a sound is coming. She is kindergarten and is having difficulty hearing the differences between letter sounds and being able to build skills for literacy like rhyming.
With an FM sound system in their classrooms, these students will have the teacher's voice amplified and projected via a portable speaker, making that voice louder, clearer, and easier to focus on. Additionally the teacher can move about the room and her voice will remain consistently amplified... benefitting the entire classroom.
