Students will work daily in journals for math, science, and social studies. Help them have a great learning experience with adequate art materials and journals. They will enjoy writing and drawing while they learn, and this will help process their learning. It helps solidify their learning and transfer this knowledge within other context and content areas. Journals also provide a time for personal learning reflection, helping them understand and be able to explain their learning. They also are interactive providing more independent engagement while learning. It will also act as a study guide for assessments. I have personally witnessed the student engagement within these journals, and have seen how the integration of art and writing has improved participation and learning within all content areas.
Math manipulatives are key to student success, especially with abstract content. They help students have a visual concrete image of unfamiliar abstract content. Have enough manipulatives for partner, group, and individual work is key to successful comprehension. Also, knowing that we can do small group activities and review using manipulatives helps provide formative assessments, and promote student mastery.
I look forward to your help in assisting and promoting student learning through journaling, and providing visual learning representation for abstract content areas.
