My students love playing on instruments, specifically Orff Instruments. These are percussion style instruments such as glockenspiels, xylophones and metallophones. I am working to build a collection at my school so each child has their own to play. These instruments allow them to work together and listen to each other while developing their abilities to become fully engaged allowing students to achieve greater musical mastery.
We use our 21st century skills in almost every lesson: Communication, Collaboration, Critically Thinking, and Creativity. My students can compose their own melodies and improv. They create various dances to go along with a song to create a beautiful piece of performing art! They are able to respond verbally and non-verbally with each other through the power of music. Even students who are not strong musically have the confidence to try new things in my music room because we can take any idea and create it into an extraordinary piece of performing art.
