Often times, teachers give students a bland basil reader and try to force feed the dry literature to their students while expecting them to enjoy reading. I want my students to learn to LOVE reading!! By utilizing novel studies in my classroom, I will be able to do activities across the curriculum. For example, we can figure out the number of miles Maniac Magee runs. When reading Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key we can learn to acknowledge and accept differences and disabilities others may have. Having the opportunity to read award winning literature and engage in rich, colorful discussion will help my students learn to love reading.
