Great books give us a view into worlds we may never experience on our own. Reading is a way to teach students about the world around them and give them the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of others. When English Learners read, they are developing skills that cannot be developed in any other way. English Learners learn through reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Reading is the launching point for all of the other learning domains.
Reading great literature gives students the opportunity to take their vicarious experiences home to their families and community. This bridge between school and home is essential to creating life long learners and changing the community as a whole!
