My students need Chromebooks in the classroom to access the online supplement to our Vport math and reading curriculum. In addition, I have students that use the Fast ForWard computer program daily, but I don’t have enough computers for all of my students to access the needed programs to help close their already existing gaps in their learning and provide the specialized, individualized education required by special education. While the curriculum itself is great and the students get much out of direct teach, the computer portion to the curriculum in both reading and math supplements what is being taught on the student’s current ability level.
In additional, I have students with varying degrees of physical disabilities that struggle to write. The Chromebooks will be very beneficial to these students to be able to write essays, notes, and journal entries. These students will be able to focus on the content they are writing without the pressure of having to worry about perfecting handwriting or the possibility of having to redo the assignment due to illegible handwriting.
These Chromebooks have the potential to help raise students’ grades, close their learning gaps, and feel better about their grades and successes at school, which is something many special education students never experience.
