Hello! I have a wonderful classroom full of English as a Second Language students who would love to paint their home countries' flags on the ceiling tiles of our classroom! However, in order to make this masterpiece come true, we need tempera paint! As an ESL teacher, my goal is to make my students feel comfortable, safe and willing to take academic risks. I want my children to feel that they are appreciated and that their culture is important, respected and honored.
Along with the painting of each ceiling tile with a different flag, students will dip their hands in the paint and make a tile with all of their handprints with the quote "Hate has No Home Here". This will serve as a constant reminder to everyone in the classroom that everyone should be treated equally with respect at all times.
The ESL students will not only deeply enjoy painting, but will be able to have this unique opportunity that they never had before to leave a significant "memory" of themselves. The students will take pride in their painted tiles. We will leave a legacy for generations to come to enjoy and admire!
Creating works of art that are permanently installed in our school inspires so many positive qualities and incredible growth within each student.
