The materials I'm requesting for my classroom will be used not only by myself in small group instruction, but for one on one instruction during intervention. They will also be used by my students for group projects and collaboration with one another in the classroom. The materials will replace old wooden tables that squeak when students erase or make the tiniest movement. Since the new tables and chairs will be used mostly for reading groups as well as writing, making mistakes and erasing is a given. Many students don't want to erase while using the current tables because attention is drawn to them as the squeaking is that noisy and distracting to others in the room. I spend a lot of time letting my students know that mistakes occur and that's okay, explaining to them that is how we learn. I do not want a squeaky table and chairs to discourage them.
