My project will bring abstract math standards into a real world application, combining lessons of color, shapes and applied science with the melting of the glass. This project of combining shapes into a true piece of art will bring their learning to life and bring meaning to math, art and science.
My students will create 3 dimensional art pieces using colorful glass and fusing the pieces in the glass kiln. We create many art pieces every school year with pastels, chalk, water color and acrylic paints and these projects lift my students confidence as well as their learning. These projects are only 2 dimensional projects though.
This new way of creating sculpture through glass fusion will be one more way to explore 3D math in a real world application.
