I am walking into a 4th grade classroom after having spent 6 years out of teaching to serve in an education advocacy roll. Prior to that I taught kindergarten for over a decade. I am starting from scratch.
I want the learning environment to be engaging from day one, with learning supplies ready and available in an atmosphere that is motivating and supportive. For those students who had older siblings or family who may remember me as a K teacher, I want them to see that this is NOT a kindergarten class, that this really is their fourth grade space equipped with learning supplies that will help them get started right away.
These materials ( pencils, banners, chalk, dry erase board and markers) are essential items that will make the learning space feel as if it has been fourth grade all along.
