The picture books requested from Donors Choose are all linked to the development of the social and emotional well-being of children. The children who will benefit from these books have difficulty connecting with others. Encouragement and support activities will be tied to each book as a character lesson. For example, the book, Don't Think About Purple Elephants, is a great lesson on what to do when you are worried.
Using picture books are a great way to build self-esteem, develop strategies to not worry, or learn how to be the best YOU. These books will be used as a whole class read aloud and then put into the children's hands to read over and over again as a sense of support that you can do anything you set your mind to. Children love to read picture books and so this is a perfect gift you can give a child!
I hope that you have a clear picture of how I plan to use these picture books in my classroom. I would love to create a digital portfolio of actually reading some of the books to my students when I receive them. Thanks again for your help with this project!
