As a first year teacher I have already discovered the importance of music in my physical education classes. Within the past month our speaker has decided to call it quits which led to many quiet classes. This was not as fun for the kids and made teaching the lessons more difficult.
We use music as a "start and stop" for activities. We often say; "When the music starts, you start. When the music stops, you stop." This has proven to be very beneficial but hard on the days our speaker does not cooperate.
Music offers a pleasant atmosphere where the kids can sing their favorite songs while doing the assigned activities. This improves behaviors and students engagement with the activity.
