Think back to when you were a child in elementary school. Some of your greatest memories from school were probably playing with your friends during recess and PE time. Playing 4-square, jumping rope, or playing any of the multitude of fun games there’s to offer during that time. The primary teachers at Garfield want to help our students create these memories during their recess and PE time as well. As a Title I school, we serve a number of socioeconomically disadvantaged students and we lack the proper funds to supply them with recess and PE materials needed to teach and play certain games and activities. Due to this, during recess and PE times, we’ve found many kids becoming bored and uninterested.
We want our kids to have fun and make memories, we also want them to learn about ways to create and sustain a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, we, K-2nd teachers at Garfield, truly believe that the teaching of structured games during PE time will help alleviate some of the social issues that have been going on daily during recess time. We believe these structured games that will be taught will lead to less conflict and more teamwork and collaboration skills.
Our hope is to get new PE/recess equipment for our students to utilize during PE and recess to enrich their lives in multitude of ways. We are asking for this equipment so we can continue to teach new PE games and skills to our primary students since K-2nd teachers are the PE teachers too. We want our students to enjoy school and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. We hope you consider helping to fund our project as we, the teachers, and the kids at Garfield would be immensely thankful. You’d be positively changing all of our lives.
