I am beginning my sixth year teaching Dual-Language in second grade at an elementary school in Texas where my students’ first language is Spanish. While they are learning English and soaking up English in every aspect of their daily lives, it is my responsibility to push them and interest them in becoming proficient readers in their first language.
Over the past five years, I have never been able to find grade level appropriate magazines in Spanish for my students to have access to different forms of print media in their native language. I would also love help to replenish the comfortable furniture that I have paid for myself over the past years. Students enjoy reading more when they are allowed to relax and be comfortable in the classroom.
