Literature Circles is a new and innovative way to make independent reading happen in the classroom. So many times we're required to read the classics, and while wonderful in their own right, they are hard for student to relate too. Literature circles allows students to pick the books they are interested in, read them at their own pace on their own time, and discuss them with other students who are equally interested in the book! The discussions center around various literary concepts like summarizing, themes, character development, and vocabulary. Skills we use in the classroom every day but that they are now in charge of.
