As much as I love the English 10 curriculum at my school--with its classics like To Kill a Mockingbird and Fahrenheit 451--I am confident that my students (especially the "non-readers") will be more engaged and excited by modern literature aimed towards young audiences, with its relatable characters and highlighting of current issues.
My students will be allowed to "check out" these top-rated young adult books throughout the school year to help ignite their love of reading. They will have a variety of books to choose from; I purposefully chose books about various subjects, of various genres, and of various reading levels, to meet the interests and needs of my diverse students.
I cannot wait to see ALL of my students learn that literature can and should be anything but "boring," and to ignite a love of reading that will expand far beyond my classroom walls. Thank you for your help!
