My students are economically disadvantaged and the majority come from broken homes. Some have parents and siblings living in Mexico while they are stuck here in the States. I had one student tell me he might not return from a trip his family was taking to Mexico because of immigration. In spite of this, they are bright, eager learners who deserve all that the public education system can give them. They are working against the odds to make their futures a brighter place for us all. Our school is located on an estuary, so much of our curriculum as a science department ties into that resource.
