One thing most student teachers don't fully understand until we get our first classroom is that it doesn't come with any books! Building my library has been a priority to me since even before I got my own classroom.
The overwhelming majority of my students are of Latino descent, yet the majority of the books that were passed down to me are not representative of my students' cultures or interests. They haven't been able to relate to many of the books and I want to provide them with literature that speaks to them. I of course also want them to learn about cultures different from their own, but the books I have don't do that either. I have also found that books in Spanish aren't easy to come by, so having more books in Spanish would be a huge help as well. I have a compiled desired book list that is constantly growing that I will attach here. The books on my list would be a tremendous addition to our classroom community.
