Our district is returning to the classroom 4 days per week for face to face learning. Many of the things that make our classroom a kindergarten have been removed to create room for social distancing and to allow frequent cleaning and disinfecting.
Play is an important part of the kindergarten day. Through play children learn to get along with others, think creatively, and problem solve. Play can also offer much needed comfort and a sense of normalcy. This year, play is more important than ever.
Unfortunately, play will look very different this year. Classroom materials may only be used by one student at a time and need to be cleaned between uses. I have the bins and the shelves cleaned and ready to fill with a variety of items to keep our little ones engaged.
Please help me add quality, open-ended toys to my classroom so that students can engage in safe meaningful play during the pandemic.
