Using a different color for the digraph (blend) in a word helps make learning stick. As part of a guided reading lesson, students will spend a few minutes prior to reading a book to learn new digraphs and words. In addition, my scholars greatly enjoy using my current set of Mr. Sketch markers, so I will use some of the sets as incentives for meeting positive behavior goals. Lastly, I will also use the markers to create anchor charts. Anchor charts build a culture of literacy in the classroom, as teachers and students make thinking visible by recording content, strategies, processes, cues, and guidelines during the learning process. Anchor charts keep relevant and current learning accessible to students to remind them of prior learning.
