Chairs are limited within my classroom. Transitions between activities get chaotic because I am constantly rearranging furniture during classroom activities. Too much learning time is being wasted moving chairs around from one area of the room to the other; chairs that do not even accommodate my students' needs.
Embracing flexible seating will promote student engagement by providing appropriate stimulation, allowing students to remain focused for longer periods. I have found that no matter how I arrange these uncomfortable chairs or how I tailor my lesson plans, my students still have a hard time remaining focused and seated during circle time.
Circle time takes place daily. It encourages the development of student's social-emotional, behavioral and communication skills by promoting positive relationships through unity, respect, turn-taking and working together. With appropriate designated chairs for this responsive classroom practice I know there will be maximum student achievement.
