Kindergarten students are constantly using books as mentor texts in reading, writing and different subjects throughout the day. Throughout the school year, we use these books as anchors to make real world connections or to spark conversations about their own experiences. My students can engage more and participate more in class when they are exposed to books with characters who look like them or are in similar life situations to our students. With these books, students will learn to celebrate diversity in themselves and within their classmates. Students will also be able to really practice inclusion with books that celebrate multiple cultures.
