These chromebooks will help my students to learn and read more using digital resources, as well as research various topics. I want to utilize them in several ways. I teach two blocks of reading class each day to around 50 students as well as science to 25. Working in small group centers is very valuable and their favorite part of reading and science. Having a class set of 7 chromebooks would offer my students the ability to use technology daily in these centers. When using them they would be practicing creative writing, working on reading comprehension, further researching the topics we are studying, as well as learning more of the skills they will need in the future using Google Drive, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.
I want my students to know that with technology learning can be limitless in reading, math, science, and social studies.
Currently I have 2 desktop computers in my classroom for student use. Our school has one class set of chromebooks that teachers can check out and use at their discretion, but that isn't enough for the 600+ students in our school and the 25 classrooms that try to use them each day. The majority of my students do not have technology at home because of the financial cost to purchase and maintain the services. With them my students will be able to strengthen their technology skills as well as be better prepared for the future. It will help those students who struggle with the traditional learning methods used in the classroom to be more engaged. It will also help students to become responsible digital citizens, all while being disguised as fun.
