Our school will create an environment that supports the development of habits to maintain high levels of social, emotional, and physical health. By using flexible seating options, natural therapy light sources, yoga mats, and other items that create a relaxing tone this classroom space will provide students an opportunity to be successful and to promote social and emotional well-being. It will provide a learning environment to support students who are at risk for academic failure due to chronic absences, out of class due to behavior infractions ( defiance, disruption etc.) or poor classroom performance/habits (missing work, lack of study skills, outside issues ie: trauma, poor adult relationships etc.). This classroom will create opportunities for success for the students through enhancement of adult and student relations in the building and provide activities in which the student feels successful and will give him/her tools to help them achieve academically while also filling the gap of social-emotional support that may be lacking outside of the school setting.
In a nontraditional classroom setting, PVMS is creating a space to meet the complex needs of our students, by developing positive relationships and giving them tools to appropriately respond and engage with peers and adults in our school community. We are attempting to empower and embrace them to not only change behaviors but transform students into productive citizens.
