Elisa Carbone's Blood on the River has been a favorite book of many past fifth grade classes. Last year, we read and explored American History by using this book as a supplement to our Social Studies curriculum. On March, 2019, Carbone published her second book of the series titled Poison on the Colony: James Town 1622. Allowing my students to continue on their Jamestown journey would allow them to further their understanding of this important time in American History. This book will also help students grasp the concepts of apprenticeship, indentured servants, slavery, beginning of democracy, and the relationship between the English colonists and Native Americans of the area.
