I value giving my students choice in the way they practice and apply new learning which is why I feel it is beneficial to implement choice centers during the math block. Students will have the opportunity to choose which activities they would like to use to practice new skills and solidify previously taught concepts. The Lakeshore Math Folders provide multiple game-based activities for all of the core concepts that are taught in fourth grade. They can be completed individually or in small groups depending on what works best for each student. These folders also offer opportunities for students to be exposed to more challenging skills and allow for differentiation among students.
It is essential for students to develop mental math skills along with the ability to think flexibly about numbers and number sense. Games such as "24 Game" and "Proof!" give students opportunities to continuously build those skills in a fun and engaging way.
