Learning how to write not only letters and words, but also multiple sentences is a key to building a strong foundation in Kindergarten. Writing is often a source of frustration for students because there are so many things to learn such as letter formation, hearing sounds in words, sentence structure, handwriting, etc. Students often want to give up before they even try. This is something I am always trying to overcome and instill a love of writing.
With this project I will be able to give my students options on how, what, and where to write. I want to provide my students with options to get out of the traditional table and chairs and get comfortable around the room and write. With these materials I will be able to create a comfortable carpet area that will be able to be used for writing and reading. Students will be able to chill on the carpet or sit in one of our new floor chairs to write. This will also provide more opportunities for students to work with each other and provide peer support.
With the table top organizers, I will also be able to give my students easy access to writing materials. They will have multiple writing papers, books, journals, pencils, pens, crayons, colored pencils, markers, and erasers at their fingertips to help them explore and develop their writing skills. By giving them the choice they will be more excited to become engaged in writing.
