First and foremost, these books will elevate my classroom library into a culturally responsive center. My students will see examples of their home language in the classroom and be able to listen to and interact with stories in that language.
I will use these books during whole group read alouds, 1 on 1 read alouds during free choice in the classroom library, and for Spanish speaking parents who want to volunteer in the classroom by reading in their home language.
Through the use of Spanish/bilingual books, the students can take pride in their native language and make authentic connections between their native language and the English they are learning in the classroom. Students can take their knowledge of these books back home to "read" to their parents in both English and Spanish.
