Often times young students are taught and they read about things they have little to no background knowledge about. We study about forest, yet they do not know what differentiates the woods from a forest. We study the various methods students travel to school, yet all they can comprehend is the yellow bus, walking, and bikes. They don't understand what a subway is or how it works. Students who travel by snowmobile or walking across a rope bridge, or commuting by boat is all foreign to them.
It is my hope that through the use of the VR Google box they can explore the world they live by documenting and illustrating their findings. Students will utilize the index cards, posted notes, and markers to become Scientists as they explore various parts of the world. The dividers will ensure they are able to work undisturbed allowing them to be fully immersed in this new world. Their end product will develop into Interactive journals of places like Mount Rushmore, a rain forest, Indonesia, Alaska, the pyramids in Egypt all which they would have visited and explored in real time. The experience will broaden their vocabulary and knowledge in ways that would allow the books they read to COME ALIVE!
