The materials that I'm requesting will set up the perfect environment to make students feel at home in my counseling office. The inspiring handprint rug is the perfect way to demonstrate that everyone should be treated equally no matter their race or ethnicity by demonstrating the diverse colored handprints for all the students to sit on.
The bean bag chairs will be placed on top of this amazing rug and will create an inviting place for the students to feel comfortable talking about personal topics. This area will also be a great place to read books to the students and provide a place for them to calm down when they are upset or frustrated.
The counseling books and boardgames will be perfect icebreakers to use when working with the children individually and within groups to help them open up and understand that other students feel and have experienced the same issues. Children relate and learn from characters in books and even more so when the books relate to personal issues.
They also learn through interactive boardgames that cover various counseling topics such as the games I selected which cover coping skills and managing their anger.
