Being a first year teacher, I would love to have a few of the basics in my classroom for students to feel comfortable as they walk in, as well as have a few basic materials to ensure learning.
Reading is the foundation of all other subjects; your donation will help supply grade-appropriate books and other materials so my students are excited to come to class each day!
The Level Reader A books and TIME for Kids are a great start to any 1st grade classroom and really offers reading that educates students on the real world. Having these books in my reading corner, along with the American Sign Language ABC rug, really provide an inviting place for students to sit during reading time.
Younger students are very hands-on, and the ABC beads and cubes will help students put letters together to build words; afterward, they will use their new pencil grips to practice writing the new words they just built!
Math is a necessary part of the day, and having pattern blocks and cards will help students gain a foundational skill of geometry. Having a calendar pocket chart will allow students to learn days of the week, months, numbers, and patterns. Calendar and whole group instruction will be done at the front of the room on the new Map of the World rug, which will double as a fun way to learn about the earth during our Continents and Oceans unit in both Science and Social Studies. Students will also be able to bring their personal mini dry erase board to write answers to questions or to use as a hard surface for worksheets done at the rug when not at their desk. This offers all students the chance to participate.
