I am excited to bring these iPads into our classroom for a variety of purposes. In our classroom, I am fortunate to have three desktop computers and five iPads that are used for student learning in centers twice during each school day. We utilize technology throughout each school day, but sometimes we do not have enough devices for each student to work on their specific skills. This prevents me from assigning specific math or reading skills to individual students because they are often sharing the device with another friend. My kindergarten friends are still learning to share, and the computers and iPads can become an area of conflict and frustration for my little friends.
A few more iPad's would save the day in my classroom!
If this project is funded, I will have more devices for students to learn from each day! That means no more sharing (or fighting), AND it also means that I can make sure each student is working on a specific skill that he or she needs to develop. My students love learning from technology because it is engaging and sometimes they do not even realize that they are growing their brains! Because of the touch screens of the iPads, my 5 and 6 year old friends will also increase their fine motor skills through tracing and dragging and tapping. They can also be used as a positive behavior support when my kiddos make good choices!
After attending the Alabama Educators Technology Conference, I learned about numerous resources that will allow my students to be immersed in knowledge and experiences that were not possible before technology! These iPads can increase learning in every single subject area, and I am hopeful that they will find their way to my kinders very soon!
