The typical student in my school is used to sitting... A lot. No wonder they get squirrely! Try as I might with lessons where we actively move, sometimes they have to sit and learn what a gerund is.
Have you ever followed a student around for a day and thought, "Wow, that's a lot of sitting and note taking." I wouldn't want to sit in a hard chair for 55 minutes, only to walk next door and sit in a chair for another 55 minutes, repeat 7 times a day. Why should I ask my students to?
With flexible seating options, my students can focus less on the uncomfortable chair they're sitting in, and more on the book they're reading, or the lesson I'm teaching.
