These books will allow for me to improve upon the environment I strive for in the classroom - one that is safe, inclusive, and engaging. My small classroom library has been a refuge for many students - readers and non-readers alike, and a spark for students who either found a new favorite read or a reason to pick a book up again. Diverse titles have given way to suggestions between classmates, references during class discussions, and an open and respectful class environment. I have selected books that match my students' diversity, varying reading levels, interests, and areas of expertise. It is my hope that these continue to add to our learning community's ethos.
High school students also benefit from the magic of reading and deserve books that inspire them to remember it. This past year has been difficult for many of us, and especially so for many of my learners - academically and personally. Adding more books to my library will hopefully give all of my students a chance to choose titles that interest them for either independent of book club reading and to make this school year a successful one.
