I am a first year teacher and I am overjoyed to be starting my career in kindergarten. Throughout my student teaching it became evident to me the importance to have a common, consistent, and safe meeting space for my kiddos. Because they are young and agile they loved sitting on the rug in whole group or for circle time.
Our rug in our classroom is the hub for questions, partner talk, discussion, and discovery. I look forward to utilizing this rug time to teach my students the importance of partner talk and asking questions to further their thinking.
This rug will also contribute to an environmental print around the classroom with the letters and correlated pictures, as well as, using color vocabulary when excusing or assigning spaces on the rug for whole group or circle time.
Overall, this will be an invaluable addition to my new classroom and my first year and I will use it to create a safe and inclusive classroom community.
