Nothing creates a warm and welcoming feeling like an inviting rug that brightens the classroom and offers enough space to seat everyone comfortably.
My students are most engaged in read-aloud and direct instruction when I can bring them in close to me and transition them away from table groups and hands-on materials. I do not currently have a seating rug available for my classroom, and the thin carpet that has covered the whole classroom floor for decades is neither comfortable nor inviting. I will place this rug at the front of my classroom and bring my students to sit here at ideal instructional times every day.
This rug will improve engagement and learning in a variety of activities: students can listen closely and see images and text clearly during read aloud time; they can follow along and focus on details during modeling and direct instruction; we can circle up here for sharing and whole-class discussions; and it will offer a warm and welcoming place for us get to know each other when we play community building games.
