The children in my class love being read to on a daily basis. We always read at least one book together during the day as a group activity. But, being a teacher in a pre-school class means that I, sadly, don't always have the capability to sit and read to individual children during center time due to things like small group activities, educational screenings, behavior issues, potty accidents/diaper changes, etc. This listening station and the books that I have chosen will give children the ability to be read to whenever they want. Your donations for this project will not only give these children the gift of literacy, but also give them a chance to learn self-sufficiency by being able to choose their own book, aid in their skills of listening to instructions by being able to follow along and know when to turn the pages and it can also help them gain better social-emotional skills by taking turns with the books and being able to invite friends to listen as well. The school where my Head Start classroom is located inside is currently part of a grant program where children are sent home with a new book EVERY WEEK! And our wonderful Superintendent also comes to each preschool classroom every Thursday, reads a book to our class and engages them with questions about the books. I often tell my students that books are so amazing because they can take us places we may never be able to go in real life. Please help me be able to give these children the gift of reading, listening and learning!
