This year I would like to integrate flexible seating options in my classroom. I do believe students feel empowered by having some degree of choice over their environment, and flexible seating will allow my students to choose where they will work. It will also allow them to change their location and position as needed. According to research, flexible seating allows students to wobble, rock, and bounce which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. It also improves participation, behavior, and focus.
I want to provide my students the flexible environment they need to be their best. The items that I selected will benefit my students tremendously by allowing them to make a choice that works best for them and by providing an outlet for excess energy and to reduce the fidgeting as well as a fun and active way to get the wiggles out. The wobble chairs will allow students movement leading to better focus. The portable lap desk will allow for additional comfortable floor, chair, or outdoors seating options. Students can take notes and work on the go. Children’s balance balls will help to improve concentration and prevent boredom and distractions in class by keeping the body active and the mind engaged. I would like to incorporate these flexible seating options in my daily routines to allow my students to be as productive as possible. There is no better way to support my student centered classroom, than creating a classroom from their point of view. As an educator my goal is to provide my students the best learning environment possible in order for them to be successful.
