Below you will find that I am requesting to purchase a subscription of Storyworks magazine for each student. These magazines expose the kiddos to interesting articles about relevant topics followed by critical-thinking questions. Various English language arts skills are intertwined in each article. This will help me focus on specific skills to enhance their learning while making it engaging.
Last year I borrowed a few from another teacher I worked with. My students loved browsing through, picking their own article that intrigued them and answering questions that they believed to be so interesting. Furthermore, each magazine contained different reading levels which helped me differentiate to meet the needs of my students. The best part was since the students were interested, they became more invested which increased skill retention and student mastery.
My goal for next school year is for at least 80% of my students to reach 80% or higher for each skill. Please help my students get there by giving them engaging materials to learn, explore, and retain useful and fun information.
