This year, my 8th year, I have transitioned into a S.T.E.A.M. Magnet campus... and I couldn’t be more excited! However, I do need some help in funding some projects. One of the ideas I would like to implement this year is alternative seating. I have a lot of students who have trouble focusing and concentrating in class, I would like to incorporate yoga/stability balls as chairs in my class this year.
In recent years I have completely restructured my 4th grade math/science class into a “flipped”, self-paced and project based classroom. In this environment the students are guided and inspired to complete the math/science projects at their own pace, allowing me to pull each student in small groups or individually on a daily basis to truly differentiate instruction. This format had some amazing success last school year and I would like to take things to the next level this year.
Studies have shown that when sitting on yoga/stability balls students have to engage both sides of their brains to keep centered, when both sides are engaged the brain is more focused on learning. Studies have also found that students with attention challenges tend to focus better reducing behavior issues and increasing focus and learning.
I would like to thank you all in advance for any help you can provide.
