A classroom library should represent the students’ interests and cultural diversity that is found within that classroom. It is important to have a classroom library that represents and affirms my students’ heritage and cultural backgrounds. I want to nurture a community of engaged readers who can see themselves as valuable. It is my hope that they will appreciate different perspectives and begin grappling with different social issues that are presented within the books that they read together. The books I am requesting represent multiple cultures and complex social issues. I intend to use these books for student selected lit groups.
