In my classroom, we read everyday. The impact of reading, just an additional 10 minutes everyday, is significant, increasing the exposure to words by 15% to over 550%! With these books, my students will read 15-25 minutes in class each day, then continue reading at home for an additional 3 hours each week. With these books, my students will have the opportunity to experience the power of reading, become passionate readers and delight in the joy of creating their own collection of books they love. Through book talks, book commercials, and book blogs, students will share their excitement about their books with each other and other classrooms in the building, thus igniting a culture of reading throughout our middle school. As we read about lives similar and different from our own, we aim to understand others, cultivate empathy and find ways to make the world a better place. Without a doubt, this foundational set of books will positively impact all student from the very first day of school!
