My students all struggle in the area of reading. Integrating a variety of reading materials will increase student engagement and overall willingness to read.
I believe that writing goes hand in hand with reading. I want to build my students' writing abilities by implementing daily/weekly journals where my kids can express themselves, as well as respond to prompts. I can use these journals to track individual student progress towards writing goals and interest the kids in a creative/expressive outlet.
Having a classroom that is safe, organized, and productive is important to me. Studies have shown that certain colors/tones lead to a more calm state of mind (blues/greens). I wish to use some strategically placed light covers to give the overall tone of my classroom a blue hue that can relax my students and give them a sense of relief. Certain scents have also been known to provide a similar sense of relief (lavender, mint, lemongrass). I want to use a diffuser as another way to help my students have a successful head space to learn and improve.
