This will be used to provide students in 4th grade additional opportunities to learn about rocks and minerals through STEAM projects. Students will learn about weathering and erosion through rock tumbling. Students will be given a rough unfinished gem and learn about how weather and erosion affect the environment.
Students will learn about geodes and make an art project with part of their geode. Students will have a memorable experience researching the way geodes are formed, selecting a geode, predicting whether it is hollow or solid. Student will then use part of their broken geode to make their own pet rock monster.
I also want to boost the classroom library based on student interests. There are many series and graphic novels that my students are interested in. I want to make sure every student has a book that they want to read based on their interests and their identity. Many of the books on the list have diverse characters that will help my students identify more easily with the characters in the books.
