My classroom is full of kindergartners who have the hardest time sitting still in the hard desk chairs. As an adult, it is hard for me to concentrate when I’m not comfortable. It is even worse for all of my young students, who have large amounts of energy. I want my students to enjoy learning and to be comfortable while they are in my classroom. I have chosen a variety of seating options for my classroom. The bean bag will be used in our classroom library. It will provide the kids with a place that will hopefully encourage their love for reading. They can grab one of the books from our library and practice the reading skills they are learning in a comfortable place. The pillows and chairs will be placed throughout the room. In our school, we use a points system to encourage the kids and give rewards based on point value. My students will be able to use the chairs and pillows for reading, but also much more. I will choose random students throughout the week based on a point value to sit in them and complete their work. I am very excited to be able to provide options for my students. I am hoping not only will the seating encourage their learning but it will also encourage the students to start becoming independent. It’s a small choice for them, but it’s a choice they can make on their own!
