My students struggle with math and often lack the confidence and motivation to try problems in my class. Many of my students have told me that using dry erase boards in class help them try problems without feeling embarrassed or nervous! Being able to provide Expo markers, dry erase boards, and erasers to each of my students for math class I believe class will be more engaging for them.
Research has shown that students that struggle with math are much more likely to try a problem on a temporary or vertical surface, which is exactly what I intend to focus on in my classroom this year with your help. I plan to use the dry erase boards daily to encourage student participation. I plan to use the large Post-It notes by putting them up on the wall and allowing students to work on them in groups to encourage collaboration, a vital skill high school students are hungry to learn.
With state testing looming in the background all school year, math classes need to utilize every minute of class effectively. With your help, I hope these materials will foster higher participation and engagement in class which will walk hand-in-hand with student achievement.
